I headed down into the centre of town from the station and over to my hotel where I was able to checkin and drop off all of my stuff before heading back out, firstly in search of something to eat.
With my stomach full I then went for a wander around the centre of the city, taking in High Town and the area around the Cathedral, which was particularly prettily illuminated by the setting sun lighting up the tower and the western façade.
From the cathedral I headed down towards the river Wye and had a bit of a walk around the area around the Old Bridge, a medieval stone replacement for an even earlier wooden one, which is still open to traffic – as witnessed by the double decker bus happily gliding over it.
I headed back across town from the bridge to my hotel room, which I’d remembered to switch the air-con on in before heading out and consequently was beautifully cold when I got back.
I’d not slept well the previous night as the hotel I’d been in for the conference didn’t have air conditioning and with the temperatures never falling below the low 20Cs overnight it had been a sticky and restless night, so I was quite glad to be almost shivering as I climbed into bed and quickly drifted off for a very restorative sleep.
