We had a couple of hours to kill after breakfast before we needed to catch the train on for the next leg of our trip, so we hopped on a bus and headed over to the Royal Palace at Amalienborg and watched the changing of the guards before it was time to head back into town.

I left mum at the central station before heading back to the hotel to grab our bags and check us out and then back over to the station.

In the original version of the plan we had a train booked direct from the centre of Copenhagen through to the centre of Stockholm, but a few weeks earlier SJ, the Swedish train operator, had emailed to say that for operational reasons the train would be starting in Malmö rather than Copenhagen and that we’d have to get a local train between the two instead.

So quite a bit earlier than we’d originally planned we were down on the platform catching the Øresundtåg train out of the city and over the spectacular Øresund Bridge from Denmark into Sweden and onto the city of Malmö
