Copenhagen; Wednesday, 29 May, 2024

When I woke up we were already well down the Kattegat Sea and heading rapidly for the Øresund, the strait of water between Zealand in Denmark and the mainland of Sweden, so after a quick breakfast I headed out onto deck in time to watch us sail past the spectacular Kronborg Castle at Helsingør.

We spent the rest of the journey up on the Commodore lounge deck before, as we pulled into the berth at the harbour in Copenhagen, we headed down to the cabins, grabbed our bags and made our way to the exit and off the ship.

A short walk from the terminal building, and avoiding the £25 transfer coach, we hopped on the local bus and caught it over to the nearby railway station and caught the local train two stops over to the central station. From there we walked the short distance over to the hotel.

As it was still before midday the hotel didn’t have any rooms ready so instead we put our bags into luggage storage and headed back out to explore the city.

We wandered back over to the station and caught the Metro out to the north harbour, close to where we had docked less than two hours earlier, to pick up another ferry – this time the harbour bus service which runs from the north to the south of the centre of Copenhagen, taking in many of the main sights of the city, all whilst being included in the day tickets we had already purchased.

After taking the boat all the way to the end of the line we stayed on back to the stop for the Royal Palace and library and had a bit of a wander around that area before finally heading back to the hotel.

Back at the hotel we checked into our rooms and freshened up before heading out for an early dinner, having not had any lunch. We caught the bus down to Nyhavn, perhaps the most famous part of the city centre, and stopped off at a very nice restaurant overlooking the canal and historic houses of this area.

After dinner we had a bit of a wander around the Nyhavn and Kongens Nytorv area of the city before heading back to the hotel for a night cap and an early night.
