General: |
Brand new and very well designed airport. At time of visiting the old airport had just been demolished and the final stage of building new boarding points on the land previously occupied had just started |
Appearance: |
A very modern and sleek compact building |
Domestic
Walking from the plane you enter a small area (but larger than in the old airport). Unlike it's predecessor this has two baggage belts (rather than a short conveyor belt), you pass through the customs hall (green channel only, you have to phone customs if you wish to declare excess goods!) and into the main check in area.
International
Technically all flights except those to Alderney are International as Guernsey is a separate State to Jersey, an independent country from France and not part of the Unite Kingdom. In effect all flights are domestic within France, the Channel Islands and UK
No sign of any immigration or passport checks. The only entry onto the island by air is from the other Channel Islands, France or Mainland UK so I assume they rely on checks on entry into those countries. That or the people of Guernsey are totally trusting.
A slightly compact baggage hall, but there is lots of light and two baggage belts.
There is only a green channel at the airport. There is a helpfully provided telephone to the customs office if you wish to declare any items!
Two buses and hour on route 7 go direct to St Peter Port and two buses an hour on 7A go round the coast of the island and back into St Peter Port. One bus an hour on route 4 goes direct to St Peter Port.
Domestic
The check in area has about 12 desks and a few rows of bucket chair seating. There are two cafe/bars where you can get food and drink and a small newsagents/bookshop and a flower shop. Passing through security into a small departures lounge that is combined with the gates and a medium size, well stocked duty free shop. The departures lounge is considerably more comfortable than it's predecessor.

There is a cafe/bar on the first floor. Once you are through to air-side there is nothing.
There is a small cafeteria/restaurant/bar on the first floor and a cafe/restaurant on the ground floor land-side. Once you are through to air-side there is nothing.

There is a small newsagents and a flower shop on the land-side of the airport. Once through to airside there is reasonable size, well stocked duty free store.
Lots of clean and well maintained toilets dotted all over the building.
